Our History

Supporting Alaska's Diverse Markets

Petro 49, Inc. and its affiliates are fueling an ever-growing share of Alaska's and Northwestern Canada's petroleum needs. We have historically focused on marketing and distributing petroleum products to support the fishing industry from Alaska's coastal cities.

While the marine industry remains one of our core markets, we have become a large provider to diverse markets, including mining, tourism, transportation, utilities, logging and petroleum industries. We sell home heating fuel, and we operate a network of company-owned retail gas stations and cardlocks.

Alaska Grown

Petro 49's hallmark always has been the high quality of petroleum products and services we provide our customers. Founded in Seward in 1936 as Andy's Oil Delivery, the small-town home heating fuel delivery service has grown to become one of the largest and oldest independent petroleum distributorships in Alaska.

Founder Dale Lindsey joined Andy's in 1956 as a truck driver. Dale and his wife Carol Ann's purchase of Andy's Oil in 1959 followed by the purchase of Chevron USA's bulk fuel facilities in Seward in 1982, Petro 49 Inc. began the journey toward becoming a major fuel supplier in Alaska.

The company entered a period of dramatic growth in 1984 with construction of a bulk fuel terminal in Dutch Harbor. That is when marine operations were consolidated under the trade name Petro Marine Services.

In 1995, Petro 49's focus became Southcentral and Southeast Alaska and the Yukon Territories in Canada through a series of acquisitions, divestitures, and internal growth.

Ownership of Petro 49, Inc. has shifted to Dale and Carol Lindsey's son Kurt, and to their grandsons Matthew and Kristopher who are involved in leadership positions in the company. Today, Petro 49 Inc. includes Petro Marine Services, located in various coastal communities in Southcentral and Southeast Alaska; Alaska Oil Sales, covering Kenai and Soldotna; North 60° Petro Ltd., our Canadian company serving the Yukon Territory and Northern British Columbia; and the Petro One and Petro Express network of company-owned and licensed dealer gas stations. Petro 49 Inc.'s "Fine Fuels, Super Service and Quality Lubricants" are offered at terminals in Craig, Homer, Juneau, Ketchikan, Kodiak, Petersburg, Sitka, Skagway, Soldotna, Whitehorse and Wrangell. The company also has administrative offices in Anchorage and Seward.
